jaw pain and tmj issues
When you experience jaw pain it can effect your life in a number of ways. It can make it harder to eat, harder to talk, harder to sleep and even harder to kiss!
While jaw pain is common it is a condition that many people are not aware of.
Many of the people we see who have jaw pain feel like other people really don’t understand why they are so miserable with it.
You may have heard the terms “TMJ” and TMD but not really understood what they mean.
TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint which is the technical name for your jaw joints. You have two of them (one on each side).
TMD stands for temporomandibular joint dysfunction. It refers to pain and dysfunction of the muscles that move your jaw and the joints of your jaw (TMJ).
Our chiropractors have a special interest in helping people with TMD.
Our approach to TMD is to:
assess your jaw joints and muscles
assess your posture (your posture, especially of your neck, can effect how your jaw works)
work with your dentist
provide chiropractic care and exercises to improve any problems

Sometimes sufferers can have any combination of the symptoms above with no headache at all!
Migraines can also be very frustrating to manage as they tend to affect how we work, exercise, enjoy our down time, fulfil our family roles and just be ourselves.
Due to the high impact that migraines have on our community, it is important to help clients establish a cause for their condition and implement a management solution.
Chiropractic is a drug free approach to managing migraines.

Chiropractic and Scoliosis
Scoliosis is when the spine bends sideways into an ’S’ or a ‘C’ shape, instead of being almost straight, and usually starts in older children and adolescents.
More than just an extra set of curves, scoliosis can sometimes be the result of more serious underlying issues.
It is important that if you suspect scoliosis, you consult an appropriate health practitioner to determine not only the possible cause of the scoliosis, but also accurately measure the severity of the issue and the best course of action.
At Align we see many families with school aged children and so know how crucial early detection, intervention and management are in regard to the prognosis of scoliosis.
We take time to assess scoliosis and know how to manage and monitor the condition, when X-rays are necessary, as well as when it is appropriate to refer for specialised approaches such as bracing or surgical opinion.
